I hate it when my husband eats the heart out of the watermelon after I slice it open. It’s a habit he’s had for as long as I’ve known him. He’ll take a spoon and while standing at the kitchen counter, will eat a full serving right out of the middle. I have tried to convince him that NO ONE loves the outer part of the watermelon as much as they love the meaty center. I have done my best to express that it’s selfish of him to hoard the heart of the watermelon all to himself, yet he STILL does it.
He knows it annoys me.
He knows I think it’s unsanitary.
He also knows that I don’t even like watermelon, but I feel a fierce territorialism about protecting the rights of other people who do.
That is why he has learned to eat a watermelon like this:
Now, I cannot even stay mad at him. How exasperating!
